Pamper Day Update

The pamper day we held on the 6th July was an amazing success and we now have many relaxed and rejuvenated residents. Some service users enjoyed a full manicure and polish, some indulged in a mini facial or head massage, while others enjoyed a simple hand massage. The response was really good from all the residents who took part. We are planning on making this more of a regular activity and will be arranging for this event to take place again in the upcoming weeks. Here are a few photos taken on the day.

Pamper Day at Bank Close House

On Wednesday 6th July, residents at Bank Close House can sink into relaxation and enjoy one to one pamper sessions of their choice. Our new activities coordinator will be offering a range of treatments including nail care, hand massages and mini facials. Our hairdresser who regularly does the service users hair will also be coming in.

During the sessions, service users will be listening to soft relaxing music and will be offered refreshments.

Towards the afternoon we also have a live entertainer coming in house to sing for us. Friends and family are more than welcome to join us for this.

Annual Garden Party 2016

We are delighted to announce that our 2016 Garden Party will take place at Bank Close House on Saturday 23rd July. Last years garden party was of great success, we raised a total of £517 for our residents funds and we are hoping that this year is just as successful.

Come along and join us for another fantastic day. There will be entertainment from the local Ukulele band, an outdoor bar and BBQ area, a variety of stalls and much much more, offering something for everyone.

One of our members of staff has volunteered to have her head shaved on the day. As we are not a charity we cannot accept any sponsors but any donations you would like to make on the day are at your own discretion. In support of the macmillan ‘Brave The Shave’ campaign we will also be making a donation to  macmillan cancer research from the donations we raise on the day.

The garden will be open from 1:30pm onward and parking onsite is free of charge.

We will also be having a visit from the Mayor and his wife from around 2pm.

The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration

Over the weekend our residents at Goole Hall have been getting very creative. We all came together to help design and make multiple posters, banners and decorations, to decorate the home to celebrate the Queens birthday.

Throughout the day we played a selection of games, took part in a quiz and listened to music. All of the residents who took part were really hands on and enjoyed the activities thoroughly. Even our service users who didn’t want to join in with the group activities really enjoyed there themed one to one sessions.

A Few Wise Words

During the day at Rotherwood our activities coordinator fits in as many one to one sessions with our service users as possible alongside our weekly set activities. In these one to one sessions many of our residents like to talk about their life experiences and the things they have learned throughout the years.

This weeDSC_0583_1k during our one to one sessions we have been taking note of ‘A Few Wise Words’ our residents have had to share. We have had a mixture of responses from some very wise ones to some really funny ones. Below is a small list of some of the things they have had to say:-

  • Don’t take yourself too seriously
  • Enjoy yourself and have a good time
  • Don’t get married
  • Pay your bills first
  • Don’t worry about being in a care home, its lovely being looked after

These will be displayed in the home for all our residents, their families and visitors to enjoy.

Make & Bake Cake Sale

We would like it invite everyone to our make and bake cake sale on Thursday 16th June from 2pm – 4pm. The event will take place at The Garden House, 24 Humberston Avenue. We are hosting this event to raise money for the Alzheimer Society and to celebrate National Care Homes open day. During the day we will be selling cakes and would be very grateful for any donations of either homemade or shop bought cakes. Our wonderful cooks have already started us off with a lovely selection of homemade cakes and buns. Please join us for a day of fun, laughter and memories. Refreshments available.

St James Church entertain residents with monthly service

On the first Wednesday of every month Rotherwood Care Home are visited by the vicar from our local church. Residents here have been brushing up on their singing skills so that they can join in and sing along during the service.

Each month the vicar tries to bring along a different musical instrument for the residents to hear, this month he introduced to us the ukulele and the kazoo. We started off by singing a few favourites including The Jungle Book- I wanna be like you and Johnny Cash- You are my sunshine. Towards the end of the service we all joined in with the Lord’s Prayer and then finished with a beautiful song from the 1890’s called ‘Keep on the sunny side’.

The positive impact this has on the residents can be felt throughout the home for days. We would like to say a huge thankyou to St James Church for making this possible.

We look forward to next month’s visit where we will be visited by the church choir.

Generous Donations at Bank Close House

During the past couple of weeks Bank Close House have received some really generous donations. The family members of two past service users have very kindly donated a total of £520 to the home.

A service user meeting was arranged and there we discussed how the money could be best spent in a way that would benefit all of our service users. We all agreed on buying new garden furniture for our beautiful garden and putting up a plaque in memory of our dearly missed service users.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank both families for their donations. We are extremely grateful and are looking forward to updating our garden area this summer.

Happy 102nd Birthday John

Over the years a lot of things have changed. There has been the introduction of colour TV’s, computers and the latest invention the smart phone.

One gentleman at Rotherwood Care Home has witnessed all of these changes in technology as well as many other historical events.

On the 3rd of May 2016 we came together to celebrate Johns 102nd birthday by hosting a party in his honour. Our in-house cook prepared a beautiful buffet, Tesco in Rotherham kindly donated a personalised birthday cake and we even had a visit from our local Mayor.

The day was of great success and was enjoyed by all.

Many happy returns John.
