Day trip to Wentworth Garden Centre

Blowing Away the Autumn Cobwebs at Wentworth Garden Centre

As the seasons change and the air turns crisp, there’s no better way to embrace autumn than with a day out in the fresh air. Last week, our residents enjoyed a wonderful trip to Wentworth Garden Centre and Farm. The perfect chance to stretch our legs, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and blow away those autumn cobwebs!

Although the morning was a little windy, spirits were high from the start. Wrapped up in coats and scarves, everyone took their time exploring the grounds, taking in the displays of autumn flowers and foliage. The bursts of colour made for some fantastic photos, and there was plenty of chatting and laughter along the way.

Next stop was the farmyard, where we were greeted by an array of friendly animals. The residents loved meeting the horses, goats, llamas, sheep and cows, with many stopping to give them a gentle pat or snap a photo. The animals were curious and playful, and it was lovely to see so many smiles as they came up to the fences to say hello.

After all that exploring, we made our way to the garden centre café for a well-deserved rest. A warm lunch, a hot cup of tea, and good company made the perfect ending to a delightful day. Conversations flowed easily as everyone reminisced about past visits, favourite animals, and family trips to the countryside.

It was a truly enjoyable outing, filled with fresh air, laughter, and friendship. Days like this remind us how important it is to get out and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, especially as we head into the colder months. A big thank you to the staff who organised the trip and to our residents for making it such a memorable day!

trip to Clifton Park

A Day Out at Clifton Park Filled with Memories

At Rotherwood Care Home, we love creating opportunities for our residents to enjoy the local community and share special moments together. This week, we took a trip to the beautiful Clifton Park in Rotherham, where history, memories, and friendship came together for a wonderful day out.

For Terry, this visit was particularly meaningful. He shared fond stories of his involvement in helping to raise funds for the Clifton Park memorial stand. A project that still stands proudly today as part of Rotherham’s heritage. Walking through the park gave him the chance to reflect on the role he played in its history, and it sparked plenty of happy reminiscing.

Both residents enjoyed looking back on their memories of Rotherham and Clifton Park, chatting about the changes they’ve seen over the years and the many occasions the park has brought people together.

The day continued with a wander through Clifton Park Museum, where they explored the fascinating exhibits before settling down for a relaxing coffee. There was plenty of laughter and storytelling before making the short stroll back to Rotherwood.

To finish off a perfect day, our residents were welcomed home to the comforting smell of a home-cooked chicken lunch, a lovely reward after a morning of walking, chatting, and reminiscing.

At Rotherwood, it’s these everyday adventures that mean the most, bringing joy and memories, and making our residents feel connected to their community.

We've also been doing some Christmas themed colouring

We've had a very festive visit from Father Christmas, who spent time with everyone and gave out gifts and hugs and Christmas cheer.

And last, but by no means least, we had our Christmas party!! Merry Christmas to one and all!

June Update from Charnley House Residential Care Home, Hyde

It’s been all go here at Charnley House residential nursing home in Hyde over the past few weeks!

The residents have enjoyed time interacting with Newton the cat, which was donated by the Rotary Club of Hyde.  The lifelike cat toy purrs, cleans his paws and turns on his back for a belly rub.

We’ve been for a great day out where we sailed on a canal boat from Marple to Poynton, enjoying the views along the way. There was even time for ice cream, which everyone enjoyed very much, as you can see!

The residents have been showing their artistic side with some lovely colouring of summer flowers, and we’ve had a little bit of a pamper day where some of our ladies had their nails painted.
