Day trip to Wentworth Garden Centre

Blowing Away the Autumn Cobwebs at Wentworth Garden Centre

As the seasons change and the air turns crisp, there’s no better way to embrace autumn than with a day out in the fresh air. Last week, our residents enjoyed a wonderful trip to Wentworth Garden Centre and Farm. The perfect chance to stretch our legs, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and blow away those autumn cobwebs!

Although the morning was a little windy, spirits were high from the start. Wrapped up in coats and scarves, everyone took their time exploring the grounds, taking in the displays of autumn flowers and foliage. The bursts of colour made for some fantastic photos, and there was plenty of chatting and laughter along the way.

Next stop was the farmyard, where we were greeted by an array of friendly animals. The residents loved meeting the horses, goats, llamas, sheep and cows, with many stopping to give them a gentle pat or snap a photo. The animals were curious and playful, and it was lovely to see so many smiles as they came up to the fences to say hello.

After all that exploring, we made our way to the garden centre café for a well-deserved rest. A warm lunch, a hot cup of tea, and good company made the perfect ending to a delightful day. Conversations flowed easily as everyone reminisced about past visits, favourite animals, and family trips to the countryside.

It was a truly enjoyable outing, filled with fresh air, laughter, and friendship. Days like this remind us how important it is to get out and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, especially as we head into the colder months. A big thank you to the staff who organised the trip and to our residents for making it such a memorable day!

Fun, Flowers, and a Bit of Boogie at Charnley House!

It’s been a fun and activity-packed time here at Charnley House, with our residents enjoying a variety of sessions that brought smiles, laughter, and a few impressive skills to the surface!

We kicked things off with some balloon fun – our residents loved throwing colourful balloons onto a playground parachute, bouncing them between each other and sharing plenty of giggles along the way.

Next up, we turned up the music and had a dance session to the classic sounds of The Drifters. There was toe-tapping, hip-swaying, and lots of laughter as everyone joined in for a boogie. It’s safe to say, we’ve still got the moves!

We also enjoyed a calming and creative afternoon of flower arranging. With a lovely selection of fresh blooms, our residents crafted beautiful bouquets, each one as unique and vibrant as the person who made it. The lounge has never looked (or smelled!) so good.

To round off the week, we had a go at ring toss. It was all in good fun, and we even handed out little prizes to everyone who gave it a try. Truth be told, the residents were much better at it than we were!

Scroll through the photos below to see all the moments of fun, laughter, and creativity—we’re already looking forward to what’s next!

Violins and Ice Cream!

We've had a fantastic time here at Charley House over the last few weeks.

Everyone had a wonderful time when Helen the violinist visited us and played us a range of lovely music. The residents and staff enjoyed it so much that they got up to dance! Take a look at the images and videos below.

We've also had men's hour in the garden, where we have spend some time in our garden with some of the gents, enjoying the sunshine and reminiscing about past holidays.

And, finally,  we had a visit from the Ice Cream man. The local ice cream van came to visit and our residents all enjoyed a 99 with a flake, whilst sitting outside lapping up the beautiful sunshine.

Cat in residential care home Hyde

The Cat With No Name and Activities At Charnley House

Our residents have been enjoying the company of a lifelike toy cat! The cat has been donated by The Rotary club of Hyde. He purrs, cleans his paws and turns on his back for a belly rub. He has settled in really well and the residents love him The only thing is, he needs a name! We have asked all the residents what they would like him to be called and all of the names will be going in a hat and drawn at random. The name will be revealed soon.

We’ve been able to have some visits recently, which have gone down very well after such a long time with no relatives allowed. Our residents have also been enjoying games of soft ball. As you can see, it’s a highly contested sport!
