Christmas Celebrations at Charnley House Care Home in Hyde

Everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit here at Charnley House, and with so much going on it's no wonder!

We've had fun and frolics with a trip out the theatre to see this year's panto, Peter Pan.

We've been making, and, of course, eating, mince pies.

We've also been doing some Christmas themed colouring

We've been listening to Christmas carols and Christmas songs and had a visit from some carollers. We've all enjoyed singing along and some of us even had a little dance as well!

We've had a very festive visit from Father Christmas, who spent time with everyone and gave out gifts and hugs and Christmas cheer.

And last, but by no means least, we had our Christmas party!! Merry Christmas to one and all!

Both our residents and staff are getting very excited for Christmas now.

We’ve got the tree up and have been decorating the home (and ourselves) with tinsel and lights. We’re even dressing up for the occasion!

Our residents and staff really enjoyed Halloween this year, prepping for the day by colouring and making decorations and carving scary pumpkins! As you can see, Charnley House looked very spooky indeed for the festivities. We then had Halloween themed games and treats.

We've had interactive colourful fun with balloons and the parachute sheet.

Residents have made delicious chocolate cupcakes, which went down a treat with a lovely cup of tea.

And we've had a retro treat that went down just as well - Wagon Wheels!

Some residents have been enjoying doing jigsaws now the weather's getting a bit colder.

And finally, we've been tasting foods from around the world to celebrate World Food Day!

There have been lots of fun goings on recently at Charnley House.

Our residents have been making their own delicious trifles (some with more cream on the top than others)

We've had some rather competitive games of giant snakes and ladders

And have been colouring in a large I Love Manchester poster, which now has pride of place on display

We've also had a sing along and some dancing too. Staff and residents alike enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

We've had a fantastic time here at Charley House over the last few weeks.

Everyone had a wonderful time when Helen the violinist visited us and played us a range of lovely music. The residents and staff enjoyed it so much that they got up to dance! Take a look at the images and videos below.

We've also had men's hour in the garden, where we have spend some time in our garden with some of the gents, enjoying the sunshine and reminiscing about past holidays.

And, finally, we had a visit from the Ice Cream man. The local ice cream van came to visit and our residents all enjoyed a 99 with a flake, whilst sitting outside lapping up the beautiful sunshine.

As always, it’s non stop around here, so we thought we’d have a relaxing PJ Day with the residents. Nothing but some good lounging around and chatting, in our pyjamas!!

We’ve been busily drawing round our hands and colouring them in for our hand tree.

And played a “mystery box” game, where residents had to guess what items were in the box by feeling with their hands.

Two of our ladies have celebrated their birthdays, with cake and lots of cards and presents.

And we’ve been cooking up a storm of biscuits on our baking day!

And finally, one particular resident likes nothing more than sneaking off outside and doing some gardening. Looks like we caught him green handed this time!

7^th February was National Send a Card to a Friend Day, a chance to tell your friends how much they mean to you by way of a card.

There was a time when men and women wrote daily notes to their friends. There were thank you notes, party invitations, love notes and of course the gossip filled notes catching up on the previous evening’s antics! Now we have a minute to minute digital journal on social media! So National Send a Card to a Friend Day is all about stepping away from the devices and showing someone how much they mean to you.

So, here are some of the cards that we made and send to celebrate National Send a Card Day.

Also, Global Movie Day is held on the second Saturday of February each year to celebrate the power movies have to reach, connect and inspire people around the world. So, we decided to have our own movie night. We made a makeshift cinema with snacks and popcorn and enjoyed watching some great movies from different eras of film. Everyone really enjoyed the event and we had a good chat about the films afterwards as well.

We’re always busy here at Charnley House, and Christmas and January have been no exception so far, despite the cold and dreary weather!

We had a wonderful Christmas Party with games, music, decorations and lots of lovely party food on the buffet.

A few of our gents have had some extremely serious games of darts. Looks like we’ll have to get a league going here now! All friends in the end though.

Whilst our ladies have had a few relaxing games of Snakes & Ladders and the Safari Game.
